How does the image take form?

First, I determine the best size for the image and select the paper. Then, I draw the form and shape, outlining lightly. When the form is right, I begin the shading and highlights. Finally, I like to leave each drawing for a day or two, then go back and look at it with fresh eyes before completing and signing.

What was your most interesting commission?

Once, a young man commissioned a portrait of his girlfriend. It was very romantic, because he was planning to give her the portrait when he proposed to her. I never found out the outcome, but I like to think that she said yes! Who wouldn’t say yes to such a thoughtfully planned marriage proposal?!

Do you have any tips for people when they commission a drawing?

It’s very important that the image people send be clear. Make sure the image conveys all the details you need me to draw in the finished picture.

How do we get started?

Contact me through our contact page, giving me some details about your commission. It helps if you email me the image at the same time. Working from the photograph(s), I will determine, along with you, the best way to capture the important aspects of the subject. Additional elements can be added to reflect the lifestyle or occupation of the person in the artwork.
